Training & Fitness - Plan & recover
Mobility and warm-ups without the myths
Last reviewed 3 August 2026. How we write this.
Mobility is usable movement at a joint; warm-ups prepare you for the session rather than trying to transform flexibility in ten minutes.
A warm-up can raise temperature, rehearse the movement and gradually approach working loads. It should leave you prepared, not exhausted.
Mobility in context
More range is useful when a task needs it, but maximum flexibility is not a universal goal. Strength through the range you use is often as important as reaching the range.
- Start with general movement if helpful.
- Practise the exact exercise with lighter loads.
- Use targeted mobility for a limitation that actually affects the task.
- Do not use stretching to diagnose or treat unexplained pain.
