Training & Fitness - Get lean & general fitness
How to train while losing body fat
Last reviewed 3 August 2026. How we write this.
Training during fat loss helps preserve fitness and muscle, while the energy deficit is primarily created through total intake and activity.
A “fat-burning workout” does not choose where body fat comes from. Resistance training helps retain muscle; aerobic activity increases fitness and energy expenditure; nutrition determines whether average energy intake is below expenditure.
A sustainable combination
- Keep resistance training in the week.
- Use walking or cardio you can recover from.
- Avoid increasing training and cutting food aggressively at the same time.
- Judge trends across weeks, not a single scale reading.
The leaner or more experienced someone becomes, the more carefully fatigue, hunger and performance usually need managing.
