Mobility, Posture & Pain - Mobility & posture
Mobility vs flexibility
Last reviewed 3 August 2026. How we write this.
Flexibility is passive range; mobility is usable movement and control. Neither needs to be maximised in every joint.
Range requirements depend on the task, anatomy, strength and symptoms.
Train the range you need
- Use controlled repetitions through tolerated range.
- Stretch consistently when a specific range is limited.
- Build strength within newly gained range.
- Avoid forcing painful positions.
A restriction caused by injury or neurological symptoms is different from ordinary stiffness.
