Training & Fitness - Get stronger
Training power and explosiveness
Last reviewed 3 August 2026. How we write this.
Power is the ability to express force quickly and requires speed, skill and fatigue management rather than simply lifting as heavily as possible.
Jumps, throws and fast lifting variations train rapid force production. Repetitions should usually stop when speed or landing quality falls clearly.
Build the base first
General strength can support power, but power practice is specific. Beginners benefit from mastering landing, deceleration and the basic movement before adding load or complexity.
General education only. Training needs to be adapted to the individual. Stop and seek appropriate clinical help for chest pain, fainting, severe breathlessness, neurological symptoms or significant/worsening pain.
