Training & Fitness - Build muscle
How to train to build muscle
Last reviewed 3 August 2026. How we write this.
Muscle gain comes from repeated resistance training, enough challenging work, recovery and adequate nutrition.
You do not need a perfect exercise or a secret repetition range. You need movements that train the target muscles through a useful range, performed close enough to your present capacity to create a reason to adapt.
A practical structure
- Train each major muscle more than once across the week when your schedule allows.
- Use mostly stable movements you can repeat and measure.
- Accumulate useful sets gradually instead of copying an advanced athlete’s volume.
- Keep some repetitions in reserve on most sets; every set does not need to reach failure.
What nutrition contributes
Protein supplies building material and total energy influences whether weight is gained or lost. Training provides the signal; food and recovery support the response.
