Protocols range from hard cycling intervals to circuit classes, which means two studies labelled HIIT may use very different work, recovery and populations.
Benefits and trade-offs
Time-efficient cardiovascular stimulus. Higher discomfort and fatigue than easy continuous work. Greater need for warm-up and appropriate exercise selection. Not proven superior for every outcome or every person.

General education only. Training needs to be adapted to the individual. Stop and seek appropriate clinical help for chest pain, fainting, severe breathlessness, neurological symptoms or significant/worsening pain.
