Chronic insomnia and CBT-I
Last reviewed 3 August 2026. How we write this.
Cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia is the first-line treatment for chronic insomnia, not simply a list of sleep-hygiene tips.
CBT-I combines behavioural and cognitive methods including stimulus control and carefully managed sleep scheduling. It is adapted to the person and condition.
