Cold Therapy - Methods compared
Cryotherapy vs cold-water immersion
Last reviewed 3 August 2026. How we write this.
Whole-body cryotherapy and cold-water immersion are different exposures and evidence from one should not be used for the other.
Water removes heat much faster than air. Cryotherapy chambers use very cold air for short periods, while immersion changes hydrostatic pressure as well as temperature.
Compare outcomes, not temperature headlines
A lower air temperature does not automatically mean a larger or better biological dose.
