Training & Fitness - Running & endurance
Easy running and Zone 2
Last reviewed 3 August 2026. How we write this.
Easy aerobic training is work that can be sustained with controlled breathing; “Zone 2” is a useful idea but wearable zones are estimates.
Easy sessions accumulate aerobic work with less fatigue than frequent hard intervals. The talk test is often more practical than treating a watch’s generic heart-rate boundary as a laboratory measurement.
Why it matters
- Builds the capacity to perform more total endurance work.
- Supports recovery between harder sessions.
- Teaches pacing discipline.
- Still needs gradual progression if the person is new to impact exercise.
General education only. Training needs to be adapted to the individual. Stop and seek appropriate clinical help for chest pain, fainting, severe breathlessness, neurological symptoms or significant/worsening pain.
