Red light for skin and hair: what trials show
Last reviewed 3 August 2026. How we write this.
Skin and hair are common photobiomodulation targets, but devices and outcomes vary substantially.
Human studies have examined wrinkles, skin appearance, acne alongside other treatments, and pattern hair loss. Evidence for one outcome cannot be transferred automatically to another.
Questions to ask
- Was the device cleared or tested for this use?
- Was there a sham comparison?
- Were changes measured objectively?
- How long did follow-up last?
