How to choose a red light device without the marketing

A framework for evaluating red light devices on measurable specifications rather than marketing language.
Red light devices are sold with a lot of confident language and relatively few hard numbers. Because the science hinges on wavelength and delivered dose, the most useful thing you can do is separate specifications you can actually check from claims you cannot. This lesson is about reading specifications critically, not an endorsement of any device or a suggestion that you need one.
Specifications worth understanding
- Wavelength: which bands the device emits, stated in nanometres, rather than just the word red.
- Irradiance or power density: how much energy reaches a surface at a stated distance - the figure that lets dose be estimated at all.
- Measurement conditions: the distance and method behind a quoted output, since a number without conditions is close to meaningless.
- Independent testing: whether output figures come from the seller alone or from third-party measurement.
Marketing language to treat with caution
Phrases such as clinically proven, medical grade or highest power are not regulated guarantees of anything specific, and they rarely tell you the wavelength or delivered dose. Vague health promises - especially about named conditions, energy, ageing or performance - are a signal to slow down, because as earlier lessons noted, many such claims are preliminary or unproven in humans.
A calmer way to compare
Rather than asking which device is best, it is more honest to ask which device reports its wavelength and output transparently, under stated conditions, ideally verified independently. That reframes the decision around measurable facts instead of adjectives.
