Pull-ups, dips and handstands
Last reviewed 3 August 2026. How we write this.
Pull-ups, dips and handstands demand different combinations of strength, mobility, balance and practice.
A pull-up is a vertical pull, a dip is a deep press and a handstand is primarily a balance skill supported by overhead capacity.
Progress the limiting part
- Assisted pull-ups and controlled rows build pulling capacity.
- Stable push-ups and supported dip ranges precede deep loading.
- Wall handstands develop line and confidence.
- Pain at the shoulder, elbow or wrist is not a skill milestone.
