Low testosterone: symptoms, diagnosis and treatment
Last reviewed 3 August 2026. How we write this.
Testosterone deficiency is a clinical diagnosis based on compatible symptoms and consistently low, correctly timed measurements.
Fatigue or low mood alone is not specific. Illness, sleep apnoea, energy deficit, medication and obesity can affect levels.
Therapy has trade-offs
Testosterone can suppress sperm production and requires monitoring. It is not interchangeable with non-medical performance-enhancing use.
